Frugal Homesteader
I love days like today! It was about 65-70 F overcast, a great day for using the oven. Bread made, (which I admittedly have not made much of this past summer with the kids being out of school, ), I cooked a chicken and potatoes, since Hubby is going back to work, after two weeks off--so now there are leftovers in the fridge for sandwiches, meals, etc., made biscuits, crackers, and I have a batch of pear butter going in the slowcooker. i hope it turns out. I'm kinda paranoind about letting it sit in the slowcooker overnight, incase it dries out too much etc.
I also cooked some bacon, in the oven. See, hubby went to costco last month and bought some precooked bacon, that all you have to do is take out of the freezer, microwave, and eat. He bought a 500g pack for $11. I was not impressed, but he raved about the convenience of it. so, yesterday, the two uf us went to costco. I bought 2 kilograms for less than his 500g. I simpy told him that I could cook it up, and freeze it for much less than buying it already precooked. So, I got 4x the amount for the same (less really) price, and all it took was 20 min in an oven already preheated from cooking the chicken. Then I just cooled the bacon, rolled in wax paper and put in the freezer. Oh so convenient!!
But, after making a mess in the kitchen all day--I have declared to all who enter, that I am NOT doing the dishes.
I still have to cook supper after all.
