So here we are on this site trying to learn about becoming self sufficient. I know the reason I joined was for the trophies points :) just kidding... The real reason I joined is because my wife and I wanted to move away from processed food, raise and butcher our own and also can can can what we grow. So far so good and I've learned so much from all of you. What an inspiration you all are - THANK YOU!

But you know it seems the world is going off in a different direction. While we all enjoy the natural side of eating our organic pesticide free veggies, "mone" & "otics" free meat. They are growing meat in labs. I just don't get it...

Nutrient deficient crap. I'll figure out good indian vegetarian food before I eat that junk. Indian because they know how to make it tasty unlike proccessed crap they pass off in the U.S.

If they manage to get rid of the meat and dairy industry, where are they gonna get the manure to provide fertilizer for the plants? I'm not sure they can create enough nitrogen-rich fertilizers using plant-based fertilizers alone, and synthetics will not help with soil tilth.

:cafWell, I feel the numbers of people using these type foods will not outnumber those who do not, will not, for many, many years. If you don't want meat, fine. There are PLENTY of veggies out there to eat. Once again, enjoying the actual taste is what many of use want. For some, not so.

Being in WalMart every week -- working demos -- I do see the good, bad and ugly of peoples shopping & eating habits. Most often you can look in the cart & see how they got "where they are". It is hard to not stop many and enlighten them to better eating. However, I increasingly see more who are actually trying to eat wiser -- over a couple of years I've seen it. Plus, I see HUGE improvement in the food carried to offer better choices and variety within the health and specialty foods areas. Yes, many "health" foods are not the least bit healthy. I am referring more to the truer foods -- various flours, milks, oils, sugars, etc. Many more whole & organic offerings.

Remember -- we will NEVER fix stupid. There will never be a day -- (maybe if the SHTF day comes) -- when we will change every persons eating habits to better choices. But we can keep trying. Don't know what all is in this "burger" & it could be dietarily complete. :idunno I'm not buying it.

Personally I respect any diet, be it meatless, full vegan, gluten free, etc. Hopefully they do eat in a healthful way. I love chocolate, occasional wine, raw milk, heavy veggies, most meats, etc. It works for me. I hope it works for them.:D

Big chem does not care about soil tilth. Keep poking the insecticides and herbicides to the land, till it to break up the soil structure, then poke the synthetic fertilizers to it to try to fix a soil that is void of beneficial organisms, dead soil that won't support life without increasing use of fertilizers.
