Interesting article so far. On page 1123, they evaluate humor. The study wanted to evaluate what people found to be funny. So they apparently established scale of funny by assembling jokes and asking comedians to rate them.
I am probably a little dense, but it seems to me that it isn't possible to establish a scale of what is funny, or rather how funny it is, because humor is so subjective.
For example, my mom only finds funny those things where someone is humiliated or hurt in some way. I think that's terrible. I laugh more at things I can relate to, such as redneck humor, or real life stories!!! If we both are laughing, we both find things funny. If the comedians didn't find it funny, then how can it be said that what makes us laugh isn't funny?
Oh, that doesn't make sense. I can't say this right....
