This isn't a remedy, nor a request for one. But it is health related. I found this quote while reading through one of my herb books. Doesn't sound like much, does it? I think most of us on SS agree with the sentiment. But, take a look at the author's name, and when he wrote it.
"Never have we loved life more yet never have we cared so little about sustaining that love. Delicacies and luxury make life more delicious for us, but who honors the herbs that serve to drive out pain and to stave off death? We consider concern for our health someone else's business and hope that doctors will be good enough to relieve us of the chore."
From "Naturalis historia" (Natural history) of Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the elder), who died in 79 A.D., a victim of the Vesuvius eruption in that year.
It looks like every generation laments the follies of the present, and looks fondly on the supposed wisdom of the past. (I say supposed, not because I don't agree with what Pliny wrote, but because he wrote this almost 2000 years ago, and what have we learned?)
