We're looking at using elm for our raised panel kitchen cabinet doors. I've not worked with elm before, but heard that it splits rather easily. How does elm compare in oak?
I'd hate to spend a lot of time gluing up elm panels, planing and sanding them only to have them split when I put on the profile.
If there is a little loss when profiling the stile and rails can be dealt with, but the panels involve much more setup/prep.
Does anyone have any experience or tricks/tips when working with elm? Does rift or quarter sawn elm make a difference?
TIA!
