I am in no mood to go to the doc's today, I will wait until hubby is home tomorrow to take me. Unless yo tell me I NEED to go right now.

I have mumps twice as a kid, and yes, I did have the vaccine :/. Wehn I was in my early 20's I had a blocked parotid gland, and it landed me in the hospital for a week. last time it was on my right side, this time it is my left. and I have had a sore throat, but nothing major, all week. slight fever, and a bit of a head cold right now. (first time I have been sick in well over two years :somad

Just so you know, I do have an autoimmune disease--mixed connective tissue disease. so Sjrogens has not been ruled out--actually, it is quite a possibility, due to dry eyes.
And I repeat, I will be going to the doctor tomorrow. I just need to know if there is anything I can do right now to alleviate the pain, hopefully with stuff I have in the house, b/c, as I said, I am not going anywhere, except to bed.

I am glad to know that you are going to be heading to the Doctor's tomorrow :) .

In the mean time; for the sore throat I would gargle warm salt water and then take a teaspoon - a table spoon of a honey /lemon mixture. The honey soothes and the lemon is an astringent.

For the fever I would just take tyelnol; but if you do prefer a more natural approach then a cold face cloth over your forehead will help. I can't remember right off hand the herbs to make a tea from to help fever. I will re-post when I find some more info.

I hope you feel better soon!

The salt water rinse might also help with the gland itself since the gland does drain into the mouth (if it isn't blocked). Massage directly over the sore & swollen area with a warm moist rag, or place a warm heating pad directly over it, with some pressure - for this, we use a sock filled with rice and tied or sewn shut; heat in microwave a few seconds. Place directly over your jaw. If you don't have a microwave, try just a warm rag, or hot water in a ziploc bag covered with a rag.

I do believe it is blocked, but I will try it anyways. Can't hurt--well, maybe applying pressure might, but hey :p. No microwave, but I was just heading into the bath tub. i wil use a wash cloth. and I do have a hot water bottle. Thanks!
