I can hardly believe it. My fiance is becoming slowly converted!

He was at an auction and there was a lot of about 30 meat chickens. He said if they were closer to butchering size, he would have bought them for me. (They were only about 1/2 grown)

:love

SWEET!

My DH said something the other day that totally surprised me too! I talk all the time about all of the kids living close and us working together on a farm or something and he is/was pretty dead set against it. Then the other day he says "When the kids are all older and we need to store more food because the families will be bigger we can build a walk in refrigerator and use an air conditioning unit for it. We can even build it underground for better insulation. We could even build two, one that is a freezer and one that is a refrigerator." :th
Then I mentioned how many turkeys we could raise and freeze to feed our family (families) for a year and then he said "Yeah, we should make it big enough that we can hang a meat cow in it to cool."

I thought it was a case of alien body snatchers!

Pamspride! try to talk him into making the freezer behind the fridge so that when you walk in the fridge at the back is the freezer--then anytime you open the freezer the cold just goes to the fridge! that is how most good restaurants have them and it really can cut down on the costs of running it.

It is my dream freezer/fridge! :love Along with a nice big kitchen with the huge easy to clean stainless steel tables-big stainless sinks and spots for all the fun stuff-- like my food saver station, and a kitchen aid mixer station and the big butcher block area for cutting and chopping and the hand crank flour mill area and and ..... Sigh.. someday!:fl

My hubby even said-- we should look for some nice land with water on it and maybe think about moving farther out into the wilderness..
And recently I might have him closer to picking up a small wood stove just for those emergency's when we have no power and the gas goes out. It could happen...Right? ;)

Emerald, that is an excellent suggestion!
I want a huge kitchen too! One set up just for canning and doing LOTS of baking in one day! I also want a separate building just for butchering. There is a guy that is not far from me that processes deer and he converted a garage into a meat cutting room. I want to have a cement block garage style with all stainless steel tables and all of the meat cutting saws set up and then put an air conditioner in it just for doing meat. I want to be able to have a hose hooked up so I can just spray with bleach/cleaner and then pressure wash the WHOLE room down to clean up!

I also want an outdoor pavilion with a grill, fireplace, and kitchen on the side for entertaining a large group outside next to a HUGE pond! If each of my 6 kids got married and had 3 children each that would be 32 people plus my mom, brother, and MIL (35 people) to get together on a regular basis once they are grown.

I am trying to talk all of my kids into living CLOSE, like all on the same farm, so we can share these items and build them together. I can't afford to build a meat processing garage but I could afford 1/5 or 1/7 of one if we built it ourselves and got the stainless steel tables at auctions and stuff. We could build a pretty nice building!

I totally am with you on the butchering place. Wow, that would be grand!! For now, I have to settle for a big 8ft across fire pit, with tables set next to it...and a plastic water barrel with a hose. Not grand, but functional..and easy to "clean up" :D We will one day...hopefully soon, get my summer kitchen put in. We have a "2" car garage, partially underground, cement blocks and floor...we dont put the vehicles in there because they just dont fit! Even my S10 is tight in there. Soooooo, I have all the cabinets, upper and lower, and the countertop given to me by my BIL. Metal cabinets! LOVE them! Now to get it all set up...before next canning season. :/ Got a free stove for in there as well...and a fridge. Now to find the motivation to feed to hubby! LOL

At this point, I want an oven *sigh*

Isn't conversion of hubbies great?! Mine doesn't believe in anything alternative, but he's seen the positive effects on our horse so now he's going out and finding different therapies/people!!!!
