The humming birds and swallows are in full swing here. I had to tidy up my swallow houses (8 in all) and I just hung 4 humming bird feeders. A humming bird almost stabbed my eye out trying to get to the fresh food! I almost fell off the deck! :p

I love to watch the swallows swooping down into my bowl shaped yard to snatch the mosquitoes etc. (I have bats too and a cool bat house that I'm hanging this year.)

Now THAT would have been a sight!

A couple years ago when my mom was out gardening a humming bird kept brushing into her back - she was wearing a shirt with a flower print. :p

So far we only have cute fluffy house sparrows and juncos, and they have been around most of the winter.

Sometimes late at night we've heard owls flying back and forth between the woods on either side of the propriety, hooting as they go. Other than that I've seen a lot of geese flying overhead, back from the south.

Sally, I want to see your bat house! When we still had a yard light we used to have 2-3 bats swooping around catching bugs, love bats!

So far I've seen crows, juncos, crows, robins, crows, blue jays, crows, crows, and more crows :barnie They know it's planting time and trying to get everything. Caught one crow this morning inside the chicken run getting their goodies (leftover cornbread) :rant

I haven't seen any hummingbirds on this side yet, but I better get the feeders ready for em.

We have Hummers year round. At our old house we had a fountain that they loved and I used to love taking pics of them bathing.

We have lots of red throated finches...can't remember what they are called, but a couple are making a nest in my courtyard. The poor guy flew into the house the other day, did a few laps around the kitchen and then flew out.

I didn't see the hummingbird when he first arrived . . . I just heard him whiz past me one morning. Fortunately, one of my first garden priorities, after I moved, was planting early-blooming shrubs that hummingbirds like . . . so he was feasting well before I got my feeder put up. It took some of the pressure off of me, because this time of year I always feel like I can't get the feeder up fast enough. :p
