anyone have any recipies for keifer, and how to flavor it? I got my grains, followed the instructions, and 24 hrs later, I got this thin watery stuff with clumps... and I doing this right? All I did was pour raw milk over the grains, and left it in my china cabinet for 24 hrs.

Hi Gonzo & The Peeps!

Were they dehydrated or partially dehydrated?

Welcome to the dark side!

We have lots of threads about kefir. I'll do a quick search for ya.

My favorite new way to drink it is to add a bit of raw honey and some fresh grated cinnamon. MMMMmmm!

I use raw whole milk too, the kefir yogurt is never as thick as yogurt.

I use clean hands to "fish" out the kefir grains and plop them (or it) into a new container of milk.

BTW, how much milk did you use? About how big is your grain or grains?

Well, The grains were spongy, I used 2 cups of raw milk. I wasn't sure what do (my internet went down for a few days,) I rinsed them with tap water, and put them in a container with some raw milk, put a lid on them, and stuck them in the fridge. They've been there since Monday I think. I hope they're ok! they are about the size of small poped popcorn..

Ahh, if you put them in the fridge they will be fine. They won't do much in there b/c it is too cold, but they will survive. I put mine in the fridge when I don't have time to make kefir or if I'm going out of town.

I use about 2 cups for each batch. If your house is cool it may take longer than 24 hours.

By the way, welcome to SS! :)
