what kind of tea did you use? Is ther just gooping strands hanging from it, or is the wholething falling apart?

There is a certain type of tea that you are not supposed to use, earl grey I think. did you add sugar?

I used the tea it came with,,from getkombucha.com..I added sugar,it is falling apart,it never did float, sank right off and stayed there,I found another source cheaper,,I thought the "sale" they had going was a good deal, but after getting the DVD's I couldnt stand to watch them,to much being stupid in them for me,so used a recipe from SS..I did use well water instead of filered, maybe thats the problem,I did boil it though,in my mind I figured its an ancient drink and they didnt have filtered water in ancient times.LOL.But on the up side, the tea makes the most awesome sweet tea I have ever had!!

OK. can you get pictures up?
By falling apart, I am wondering if you were sent more then one layer, and they are just separating.
Now, do not worry about it not floating right off the bat. Not at all unusual. Even if it decides to stay on the bottom, the new one will grow on the top.
We use well water. Filtered is for if you are on city water.

:sick Pitch it! the fact that it is already vinegary is not at all right either.

Someone on here should be able to get you a healthy Scoby for the cost of shipping.
