I'm looking for interesting ideas to turn into Lazy Susan turntables. I have a friend who uses them for making and decorating wedding cakes. I thought I'd surprise her one day and give her a decorative one to use as an actual base for the cake rather than having to cover the base or move the cake onto a serving platter.

That's a really good idea, Nailed! I bet my wife would love to have something like that. I'll have to see what I can come up with so I can surprise her with one the next time she bakes a cake. Thanks for the idea!

I have heard of people using old records to create bowls, I wonder if this might be something you could use to create a lazy Susan. It might be a fun idea for someone who is having a 60's or 70's party.

Those round glass candle holders would make a nice Lazy Susan turntable, I bet. I'm also wondering if you could use a large wooden salad bowl for this if you turned it upside down. Then you could decorate the outside of the bowl.

I've seen the bowls made from old records, but they wouldn't be substantial enough to hold a cake. People actually warm those vinyls in the oven and bend them into bowls. A large wooden salad bowl sounds interesting, but it would have to be big and sturdy to hold up the weight of a wedding cake. I was thinking more along the lines of something heavier with decorative carving.
