It never clicked with me either but that does look good.

I love salt on my apples too.

It used to be pretty popular that way here in New England. Kind of old timey now. A la mode is much more common.
I think the tradition make have come from England? I know some of my English friends living here always eat cheese with apple pie. Sharp sharp sharp Cheddar is best!

I :love fall.....

I love looking through Country Woman magazine at the pumpkin displays and people wearing long-sleeved shirts, and even light jackets, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over.

Fall means hell will end eventually, sometimes even by Christmas.
