The 2011 tornado season has started quickly, with more reports of damage from storms and twisters in the past two days than there were during all of the first two months of 2010 -- a trend likely to continue well into spring.

Severe weather season, as it's often referred to by meteorologists, typically peaks during May, when meteorological conditions that lead to the development of dangerous thunderstorms are most abundant. These conditions -- including a sharp north-south temperature gradient -- have emerged early this year and, based on the expected weather pattern, will likely intensify in the coming months.
Heavy thunderstorms Sunday and Monday affected a large region from the Plains eastward to the mid-Atlantic and the Carolinas, resulting in a fatality from a suspected tornado in Franklin County, Tenn., according to WKRN-TV. Over those two days, there were 389 preliminary damage reports (wind damage, hail and tornadoes), including 12 reports of tornadoes.

The same type of event occurred just last week, when there were 32 reports of tornadoes in the Tennessee Valley and Deep South on Thursday.

We had the super high winds and I mean scary high for my location in yesterdays storms.
TV said possible tornado etc. if situations were right.

Over the last 2-3 years the word tornado has come up way more times all together than the last 13 year I lived here. I never thought tornado in my area, uh, until these last few years and yup a few hit and have done damage.

There appears to be a general trend for more severe weather all over the world. Seems like some type of change has been happening to cause this. Our property flooded on Monday. Over half of our property was under water. Luckily the house was not part of it but the barns were. We had to scramble and get the animals out of the barn as well as get things up off the floor that we didn't want to float away or get water damage.

Tornadoes can form month of the year, but we don't usually think of them in during the winter. Arkansas experienced an F4 tornado that cut a 120+ mile path through the state during early February 2008. It passed about 300 yards from my home. Scary!

About an hour after the quake the other night, we had a line of severe weather pass through and associate warnings on it. It produced several tornadoes, but they formed to the eat of us. Yeesh.

Seasonal weather patterns fluctuate and it looks like we are seeing one of the swings now. Baton down the hatches and prepare for stormy weather! :/

They are saying this weird weather will be occurring at least every other year or so for the foreseeable future. The east coast should be expecting another hot summer like last year. It will be interesting to see what kind of migration occurs because of the new and changing weather.

That was the same tornado that took my house. The one on Feb.05, 08. It was warm and humid before the tornado then flurried after it the same night followed by a hail storm a week later then heavy rains and floods, then 16 inches of snow the next month. That was an AWFUL and adventful spring. I hope this one isn't going to be like it. Van Buren county was declared a disaster area repeatedly all within 3 months. Fema I think took up permanent residence that spring.
