I noticed the MEN mag sitting on the kitchen table as I headed to the "office". "Ooo, good office reading material." Sure it has some great articles and all but out of 130 pages, only 51 were ad free. Quite a few pages were all ads. I know that is how they make their money but I don't think I will renew my subscription due to all the ads. What a bummer.

We stopped subscribing many years ago.

Fortunately, our local public library has all the issues since the beginning of MEN. Those earliest magazines make some interesting reading.

So my suggestion is always, check out your library system. ;)

Personally I'm partial to Backwoods Home magazine. (slight hijack) I used to get Countryside, but BWH is more in tune with my views.
Reinbeau, you were missed, how are you feeling?
Oh, thank you, I'm doing ok, back on doxycycline, though, because of tick bites - started to get the headache, now I recognize it for what it is! I'm trying to get back to my online haunts :)

Countryside is published right in my little city, so I am loyal to it. It's an interesting magazine. I get MEN newsletters in my email though, so I can pick and choose which articles I want to read.

I agree w/you FC, MEN seems to put out the same articles every issue. So we started getting Grit (same publishing co), and had the same problem. We get Countryside every so often, and I've been meaning to check out Backwoods Home. We do need magazines so DH has something to read in the bathroom!

Exactly! And I get peeved that their "green" projects are crazy-expensive and the payback is impossibly horrible! I think it's 1/2-baked. I got my subscription as a gift and I like that is keeps me motivated and thinking - even though I don't find the articles particularly useful.
