I guess that's a whole other topic, but has anyone here done anything with musical instruments?

When I was a teenager, I sanded down a solid body electric guitar then took it to a furniture place for a satin finish.

I wouldn't do that now, but the finish matches the maple neck perfectly and I don't regret having done it.

I recently built my first musical instrument, a hammered dulcimer. Now I have to learn how to tune and play it.

That's interesting. I wonder what kind of strings you use on it?

I think I remember hearing that some people would replace strings on their Clavinets with banjo strings.

The Clavinet is the keyboard instrument in Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", just in case anyone's not familiar with it.

This sounds like it turned out really well! Did it sound good, too? Handmade instruments always fascinated me.

I just refinished that guitar by sanding off the factory finish on the body. I didn't do anything to the neck.

It sounds great! I think the combination of the wood aging and vibrating in sympathy to the strings, and whatever happens to 35 year old coils of wire in the pickups makes for a great sound.
