I hate using frontline on my cats. Sure it works, but I doubt it's good for them. Every year at this time of year I get an infestation of fleas in my house. The bedrooms, the bathroom and the hallway. I'm wondering if any one has a natural control method for fleas?

There's an old thread here-

http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3069

We haven't had a flea problem in a long time. When we did, we had to agressively treat the house and pets. (house bombs and frontline).
Now I use frontline on the dogs in June and September and Once on the cats when I see the first hint of fleas-Usually June. No more fleas for Us.

Our cats are indoors only and we have a dog that goes in and out. I treat with Front Line at the beginning of the season, but the best thing we found is planting Habanero. We plant them just outside the dogs range on her tie out ( she loves to landscape) about every 15 feet. We discovered this totally by accident when we planted one in the yard of our old house because my sweet husband loves them so. That year, no fleas. Not a single flea sighting. We figured it was a bad year for fleas and the plants reseeded themselves the next year.. still no fleas. We are now 4 years into planting them and still no fleas. Flea season starts before the plants mature enough to repel them, so thats why we do the Front Line once.

I'll say it again. SALT - good old fashioned plain salt, when sprinkled on the carpets etc will kill flea larva dead and stop the cycle.

I also use Frontline on the pets. It may cost lots of dollars, but when you consider the health and well being of my dogs it just makes cents. (misspelling intended)

I use Comfortis on my pets. We tried the frontline..my poor little dogs had a BAD reaction to it. I mean...dazed...hideing under the bed for 2 or 3 days...throwing up...I was so scared. So the vet reccomended comfortis. It works in 30 minutes, and works for 30 days. AND, for my poms, the pills are about $7.00 each. WAY more affordable than frontline.
However, when we got them in the house, it was salt, salt, and more salt. Took care of them darned fleas right off!

I did the DE last year. It seems to work on the adult fleas. This time I'm gonna try the salt. :fl Thanks everyone!

I'm trying something loonie on my horse - called "Shoo-tag" they have them for ticks, flea's, flies, mosquitos and for use by people and pets.

I can't say if it works or not, I just put the FLY and MOSQUITO tags on my horse a couple of days ago - and they're difficult to keep on her!

Old wives tale says Salt and Cabbage leaves around the house.

You could try a tea-tree oil based shampoo or even a drop of the good stuff on a collar.

Just a funny note. I asked my dh to use the tea tree oil shampoo on the dog for ticks. It made him smell wonderful and he was soooo soft. Last week I noticed he had used the conditioner!!!

Spoiled dog!!

:gig I have Dr. Bronners tea-tree liquid soap and use it along with the peppermint. Dog smells delightful when she hasn't been rolling in dead things or poop! :sick
