Salt water gargle!

Mix sea salt or even plain salt into warm water to almost saturation. I usually just dump a big pinch into a half teacup of warm water. Stir & gargle.

I had tonsil issues when I was younger and should have had them out many years ago, but it never got bad enough any one time to do it. I haven't had any tonsil issues since I started using this. At the first sign of a scratchy throat or swollen glands, I start this.

I started out with regular table salt, but use sea salt since I started buying it.

My mother in law taught me that one, she in turn got it from her mother, who got it from her grandmother, and so on apparently.

I found out later that sea salt is recomended for fresh piercings & incision sites because it speeds healing.

Did he try the saltwater & it had no effect?

Ginger tea with lemon and honey - chop up a piece of ginger about the size of quarter, pour a cup of boiling water over it and let it steep till cool enough to drink. Add a spoonful of honey and a squirt of lemon juice. Have several cups throughout the day. (Might try this after the salt water gargle to help get rid of the salt taste - that always make me gag :sick)

Mackay, you might want to rethink this recommendation after reading this article - I googled grapefruit seed extract because it sounded so good, and this is what I found:

Mix 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup white vinegar. Take 1 Tablespoon 6 times a day ( I may even take it a couple more times than that, I don't count). I usually end up taking the stuff for a day and a half or 2 days until the mixture is gone. So far it has cleared my sore throat.

Over Christmas I had a sore throat and didn't take this right away. By the time I finally did, I had a bad sore throat. It took 3 days of taking this 6 times a day to get rid of the sore throat but it did go away and no doctor visit.
