OK, when it comes to food, I'm NOT a morning person, never have been. It's very rare for me to really be hungry in the morning, and I cannot force myself to eat. It's not unusual for me to just make a couple of pieces of toast, put butter on them and eat them while I'm heading to work. Only problem is, I then get hungry around 10:00, and don't have any thing to eat. I've been buying the cereal type of bars to keep me going, but I know they're not the greatest thing to eat, plus they're expensive. So, I need some ideas, not only for good, quick breakfasts, but for good mid morning snacks.

I eat nuts and a glass of Emergen-C in the morning when I'm not feeling like prepping anything.

Cheese, nuts, carrots, chopped veggies, fruit, yogurt, a sandwich. Anything you would eat for lunch. Just eat earlier. It is important to have protein in the morning. maybe you could cook up some bacon to go on that toast, or p nut butter instead of butter.

I am SO with you! I am totally not a breakfast person, and I really dislike most breakfast foods at breakfast time (although I consider a bowl of oatmeal to be a satisfying before-bedtime snack, and fried eggs and bacon a good dinner item :p)

My breakfasts are usually dinner leftovers (I am eating yet another leftover cabbage roll as I type this) or often I actually will *make* some curried meat-and-vegetables to warm up a bowl of for breakfast. (I often have it for lunch too)

If you are not as egg-averse in the mornings as I am, you can have what I feed my kids before the 1st grader gets on the bus in the morning: break an egg (a very large one if this will be divided between 2 kids, or whatever size you personally want) into a microwaveable bowl and stir a few times to scramble it, zap for about a minute (depends on bowl shape and size of egg), peel the egg circle out of the bowl, put in a 6" tortilla and roll up and eat.

It is even better if you add some sauteed veggies or dinner leftovers (anything you'd do in an omelet is good in an egg wrap), you can even saute that stuff up ahead in large batches then freeze in an ice cube tray and thaw the portion out before adding the egg to cook. Or cook the egg plain, but add a little cheese and/or salsa before rolling it up to eat. I used to do those things but finally concluded I am just not an eggs-at-7-a.m. person :p

When I lack the time or motivation to do any of the above, I try to at least eat a big handful of nuts or a chunk o' cheese, both of which are quick to grab.

If you like oatmeal (the real kind not instant or quick) I will tell you how I cook it at other times of day -- put maybe 1/3 c (??) of rolled oats into a microwaveable bowl, add water til the oats are more than just dampened but not really swimming, microwave 2 minutes, then add a tiny bit of milk and anything else you would add to oatmeal (honey, cinnamon, nuts, whatever). You get the value of real oatmeal and nearly as good a texture, in only 2 minutes :p

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Put peanut butter on your toast. The protein and fats will carry you further through the day.

I'm NOT an early morning breakfast person either, and I used to eat toast, granola, cereal, or maybe yogurt some time around midmorning. I noticed that I would be FAMISHED a couple of hours later and eat more all day than if I skipped breakfast altogether. I suspect neither is good.

Since I started working I started to eat eggs every monrning. Sometimes it feels like I'm forcing myself to eat. I don't want it. But I can't eat while working.

What I found is that when I eat eggs in the am, I don't GET hungry. At least until mid-afternoon, sometimes later. I usually just eat two banty eggs, and slice a little sausage of a frozen link at cook that too. It's a bit of trouble, but it keeps me full. Probably an added advantage ... They are supposed to feed us lunch at work but it's not usually something I care to eat. They start with "over-processed" most days then carry that to a whole new level. I guess with no cook and feeding a whole group they feel it's necessary, but I don't like putting that junk in my body.

If I were in a big hurry, I could always boil up some eggs in advance and put them in the fridge. Though with fresh eggs the peeling is more trouble than cooking another way.

Guess my point is that with the RIGHT breakfast, you might not want the mid-morning snack.

Now ... Why haven't I lost weight with this? LOL. (just a rhetorical question, not wanting to hijack)

normally I hate eating in the morning and rarely eat before 11

I drink a small glass of tomatoe juice and a big glass of black cherry juice in the morning. it holds me off from food which I don't want anyway, but come 11 I am a normal hungry, not starving.

works for me lol

at work---around 10----can you bring a cooler loaded with some cut up veggies, some cut up fruit, banana, nuts etc....all foods that can easily make you hold til your lunch hour? (You know, prep yourself a good snack bag for the office)

I never met a cereal bar I ever liked lol

The reason that you are hungry by 10 is that your toast caused an insulin spike which cleared out the sugar in your blood. You need some protein.

Either make yourself a smoothie ( I do kefir, blueberry, spinach, 1/2 banana, coconut milk and liq vitamins) use either kefir or plain yogurt.

Or....have your toast if you enjoy that but, slather it with peanut butter to slow down the insulin reaction or eat some other protein with it.....

Or bring along a hunk of cheese as a snack or hard boiled egg.

Best off to skip the carby stuff as your first meal....granola/cereal bars, toast, bagel, English muffins, all poor choices which offer no nutrition .......think fat & protein.

Hi Tanks,

I usually have a minibagel with cream cheese and fruit or instant oatmeal with organic honey and fruit around 10am. But I don't eat when I get up. I have a cup of tea with one teas. of sugar. This satisfies me until lunch.:frow
