can anyone help me with the proper order in a standard networking cable. I am connecting it to a second computer. I have gotten some contradicting answers on the net. I am using standard Cat 5 cable.

That's the national standard.
For a straight-through (which will connect through a hub, as traveller said), do both ends the same (the above).
For a cross-over (to connect two computers directly), do as follows:
