Hello, I wasn't sure where to post, but I thought this was the most apropriate place. So here's my story...I am married to wonderful hubby, and have 2 girls. We live in Western Ma, near the Vermont border. We live in a small town on about a 1/4 of an acre. We are slowly trying to become as self-sufficent as possible. We heat with a wood stove and cut and store our own wood. (this has saved us a bundle over using fuel oil) This year we put in a larger garden, built a chicken coop, aquired 9 hens and one roo, put in apple and pear trees, blueberry bushes and strawberry patch. I am in the process of getting together some rain barrels to water the garden and fruits with. I am freezing and drying as much as possible for food storage, and am finally going to learn to can..( I am so afraid of poisoning my family..lol) I am also a member on BYC and was so glad to find this site. I am extremely worried on how the economy is going as really feel a need to prepare for so really tough times coming our way. I hope to meet lots of new people here and look forward to learning as much as I can, and also to be able to chat with others who don't think it's weird to store toilet paper under the bed, or cans of fruit in the closet...lol

I have cans of food in the closet but the space under my bed is wasted! You have just made your first contribution to this site and I thank you! Welcome!

I find it easier to keep up here, and get to "know" people better and easier than on BYC. :D
