Lovin' The Homestead
hello! i've been reading these a bit so i figured i ought to try one.
hmm.... i'm in ohio. i have two saanen does. i got them bred and i plan on milking them. i can't wait for some real milk! parents used to have a dairy herd but they got divorced and had to sell the herd. now i'm hooked. i've been training them to pack but now that they are bred and it's winter we haven't been walking much. i plan on keeping two wethers if i get any boys in may when the girls are due. i want to teach them to pack... now that i've tried the "cheater" way with buying older goats. don't get me wrong, you can buy older ones and have them turn out as great packers. but for me, i'm gonna start from scratch now that i've made lots of mistakes with the first two.
i want to get obers and nubians and expand my dairy herd. in a few days i'm going to look at some angora goats. i'm dying to get my hands on some mohair and learn to spin!
also in my master plan is meat rabbits, coturnix quail, haflinger horses, cows, red wattle pigs, and chickens.
i got a 5x5 greenhouse for christmas and i'm dying to put it up and start my seeds. the garden is about 50x150 ft. and about the same amount of space for corn. and i'm planning a permanant herb garden that's gonna be about 24x11 ft and will have 24 different herbs (i'm learning herb madicine). and i'd like to grow wheat, oats, and barley for food and animal feed.
i'm trying to become self sufficient.
umm..... i think that's everything...
i can't wait until spring!
alright, that is everything now
