ON OIL SHORTAGE
A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here
in our country. Well, there's a very simple answer. Nobody bothered to
check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low. The reason for
that is purely geographical. Our OIL is located in:

ALASKA
California
Coastal Florida
Coastal Louisiana
North Dakota
Wyoming
Colorado
Kansas
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
And Texas

Our dipsticks are located in DC.................
Any Questions? NO? Didn't think so.

Seriously though, you all have any idea how many drilled wells we have up here, that have been capped because we are not allowed to pump? I have friends and a BIL that work on the slope. They cannot believe the amount of wells sitting unused :old

Well you could look at it as having money in the bank. When the Middle East has dumped all the dictators that we put in place and the new governments decide not to play ball with us anymore. We can go to Alaska and pump some oil to last us for a couple more years.

There was a reason why Bush wouldn't give up any of the strategic reserves during the last gas crunch.

Last time, the prices finally dropped when the demand dropped because of the high prices. Our consumption went down in a big way. I don't want to quote a figure because I don't want to take the time to find a semi accurate figure on Google. I know it was double digit though.

I personally feel more oil is not the way to go. It's not a pretty process to extract, and still means we're using fossil fuels, which we do not have a forever supply of. Just hoarding oil for later doesn't solve the energy problems now. It's not permanent.
No, but it's a bridge as they like to say. The shortages now slow down consumption and put pressure on someone to do something. It will be a while before alternative methods are affordable. During this last election the people in some areas made it very clear they didn't want to waste money on research or trying to improve our situation. So we need more time for someone to figure it out We will be without any advancement for probably at least another 6 years. With the current attitude of many there will be nothing to turn to when they squeeze that last drop out of the shale. Every time gas gets out of control it helps to show people how things really are and they get off their complacent you know whats and scream about it. Then Washington sometimes makes at least a token gesture of some kind.

Hopefully they will come up with a better alternative and people will conserve on their own. When people won't do it on their own then the market forces it. Hopefully they will be able to slow consumption until they come up with a more ecological way of extracting oil. Maybe they'll even get to leave the stuff in the ground instead of the air and water. Wouldn't that be nice? I know "Keep dreaming". :(

We can all build wood gasifiers to run our pickups to protest the oil prices! :D I really do want to try that some day-only on a smaller cheaper motor first!
