About....7-8 years ago, I bought The Wife this 1999 Durango. It only had 30,000 miles on it, but as you can see it was bent just a wee bit.

After taking down to the bare frame(and then some) and putting another body on it and repainting it, THIS is what we ended up with!

OK...fast forward to today. The Durango now has 130,000 miles on it,STILL runs like brand new, and The Wife still loves the darn thing. Problem is, the body has developed some serious cancer. The Cure?
PUT ANOTHER BODY ON IT!!
I found another PERFECT body, white, not even a SCRATCH on it, for 1000.00 bucks. Actually, I get everything except the dash and the engine(blown up anyway) for that money. Beginning next week, we will be taking the Durango down to the frame again and putting a very nice white body on it. We are hoping to get another 3 years out of this before we retire it back to the scrap yard for good. I'll be sure to take pictures for you guys.

How's that for recycling?!?!?!?

Here is an update on the Durango recycling project. I started to take it apart Tuesday morning. You see I have the doors gutted and most of the interior out.

Here is the body coming off the chassis.

Just a portion of the rust, the reason I am rebuilding it again. Right front fender. This was hidden under the fender flair.

Cowl area behind the engine. This hole was why the carpet stayed wet all the time. I couldn't find the reason until I got the body off and away from the engine.

Left wheel well opening. The other side is even worse!
377369578.jpg

Right rear corner rust that was hidden behind the bumper.

The chassis outside.

The old body. I still have to remove the doors and a few other small parts that I will keep for spares. As you can see, I wasn't very nice to it when I moved it with the tractor!

And here is donor vehicle. This white body (body only) will be going on my old chassis, starting tomorrow. I can not tell you why this vehicle was scrapped, other than the engine is bad, and is high mileage. The interior isn't very nice either, so I will be installing my interior into this body shell. Fun time, eh? :clap

FANTASTIC, but don't you know that the "new" American way is to turn these clunkers in for a new car that you can afford? :hu

Trying to do something like that at my house would require prayers and luck that the doner parts, reciepient, and surgeon all survived the surgery and then we would probably end up with The Durango Frankinstien.
