Just in case some of you don't want to read the comments to hqueen13's article, here is a link that is mentioned. The *9* that is mentioned as being the code for organic is correct, but the *8*, indicating GMO foods, though correct, isn't used, so is not helpful if you are trying to avoid them.
Thank you, BTW, hqueen for reminding us all about the *9* code; its a good one to know.

Then the only way to be sure of not getting GMO is to buy organic.

Or know the producer personally (get to know the people at your local farmer's market), or the ultimate in knowing where your food comes from--grow it yourself ;)

We've known about the "9" prefix on the sku number for a few years now but I had never heard of the "8" prefix and have never seen it.
