I go to my pantry and it's 5 shelves are bulging. I have jars of pickles and soup that won't fit! What a dilemma! Especially since I have really turned squirrely and am hoarding up for a long cold? winter! LOL
So I go out to the garage to survey the woodpile. I am firmly convinced that she who dies with the most building materials is the Winner!
I selected a couple of 1"x6" boards I salvaged from a big construction box, (much to my poor DH's chagrin) and since my sawhorses are in the back yard holding up another very valuable woodpile, I improvised saw horses with a couple of syrup tubs cattle feeders.
I assembled the proper tools.
Then I cut 4 boards to the length I wanted. The boards were more than a little weatherbeaten, so I got the wire brush from the BBQ pit and hit them a good lick.
Well, the boards were a little scruffy looking, so I went in the garage for a small can of brown paint. Refer back to the pic of the woodpile--no, I didn't find it. But I did find a small can of blue paint. Didn't really want blue, but I wanted to do this NOW! So blue it is.
I got all the boards painted. For once the 100 + degree heat worked for me instead of against me and by the time I finished painting the boards, I could flip them over and paint the other side. I drove stakes in the ground in my cherry tomato patch while they dried and then slapped a second coat on them. I left to take my Mom her lunch and let the boards get really sun-baked. When I got back, I took them in and installed my brilliant blue boards in their new home.
Ha! Now I can clear off the pickles and soup from the breakfast table and put them in the pantry! It didn't take me long to fill the new space. I moved pickles from the bottom shelf to the top shelf and rearranged everything like us females do. (we don't build nests, so we gotta do SOMETHING)
Now I have room on the floor of the pantry to place a bucket that I will fill with vacuum sealed packets of dried vegetables that I am doing. And...OMG!!! I have an EMPTY SPACE on the bottom shelf!!!!
Well I guess ya'll know I can't let that stay empty for long. I think I need to go out to the garden and see if something needs picking and canning.......
