What to do with pears? I have a lot of pears. I canned almost a dozen jars and that barely made a dent in them. Pear sauce? Dehydrated pears? (can you even dehydrate pears?) Any ideas?

I just remembered . . . I think people make pear butter. I am hoping to try a ginger pear crisp, but my harvest is really tiny. :p Good luck with your preservation. I think I remember hearing that dehydrated pears are yummy. :D

Mmmmm.... Pear butter sounds good. I'll have to find a recipe. We don't even have a pear tree. These were all given to us. 6 plastic bags full and a five gallon bucket full!

Pear sauce and pear butter for sure; pear jelly or pear jam are good although they really do not use up all *that* much tonnage; and I would think you could make pear fruit leather.

Quite envious of you with your glut of pears :),

You can use the pear sauce or canned pears to sweeten other fruit items naturally, too. My favorite is pear-raspberry pie. We lived in an apartment for some years with a very productive pear tree at our disposal. I would slice up lots of pears and toss them with a bit of sugar and cornstarch (not much sugar, they are sweet!) and add one bag (12-16 ounces) of frozen raspberries, cover with a top crust and bake as for apple pie. It is so good, that I will actually buy pears occasionally to make this.

You bet. I dried a lot of pears last year. We ate them all winter. I also made mountains of pear leather. It's so easy to drop a bunch of peeled pears into the blender, hit the puree button for a minute or two and pour it onto the tray's. 8 hour's later you have a snack the kids can't keep their hands off of. Not only that, but while the dehydrator is running, you are free to ... CAN MORE PEARS
