I wasn't really sure where to post this, so hope this is OK. There's been another recall of pet food. And for the first time, my animals are affected. But I guess I should be glad, I haven't fed much of the bag.

Isn't that all the supposedly natural, healthy and good for the dog brands that everyone is so happy about over on BYC? That will no doubt come as a shock....do you know why they are recalling it?

Here is some additional related information!!!!!

Be aware if you handle dog food to be sure to wash your hands. Especially important to teach the kids if they feed the dogs.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Federal health officials say at least 14 people in nine states have been infected with salmonella by handling tainted dog food.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said no deaths have been reported, but at least five people have been hospitalized. The pet food was made at Diamond Pet Foods' plant in Gaston, S.C.

The company said no pets were sickened but declined to comment further.

Health officials say people can get salmonella by handling infected dog food, then not washing their hands before eating or handling their own food.

The South Carolina plant was shut down April 7 and food made there has been recalled. Diamond Pet Foods paid a $3.1 million settlement after a toxic mold in its pet food killed dozens of dogs in 2005.

I took my bag back. They only had a few bags left, so I was able to get a replacement. And, the good thing was, it was on sale, so I got $2.59 back.

this recal is NOT about pet health...

its about people.
dogs (healthy ones at least) dont get salmonella...unfortunatly people have gotten sick though (though i dont get why people dont wash their hands after touching the dog food...)

and purina has had more than its fair share of recals over the past few years.

the ONLY safe way to feed out animals is the same as the only safe way to feed ourselves...raise the food ourselves.

I feed diamons naturals, it IS on the recal list, my bag wasnt effected (no x in the product code) i stilltrust this brand MORE than ill ever trustprina, eukanuba ect...
and even if my bag was effected...my dogs regularly eat raw meat...and i ALWAYS wash my hands after handling their food no matter what (dry or raw) im NOT worried about salmonella lol.
