There is an artist in our community who uses lathe board taken from older homes to make beautiful pictures. She sketches out her design then cuts pieces of the lathe and puts it together kind of like a puzzle. It's gorgeous because of the variation of shades in the lathe. She will accent certain sections using paint at times. I have my eye on one.

It's a little hard for me to imagine but it sounds like a very unique process. I bet the results look great!
There's a local artist here who creates landscape images out of various types of wood. They use a technique similar to inlaying and it produces some really cool results.
It's amazing seeing what some people are able to come up with. I wish I were that creative!

We were visiting the local second-hand salvage company today and saw several old windows that had been turned into display units for various collectibles and trinkets. Someone had taken great care to distress the wood, line the area behind the old glass and select paint color and fabric that complimented the collections. People can be so creative.

That sounds really great! So it's like abstract art? She makes things out of wood - like people or items? I think it would be cool! I've never seen anything like it either and I would love to. I have seen a ton of old windows turned into pictures and wall hangings.
