Here's a pic of one of the plaster stencil projects in my house. I'm in love with this stuff! It's just joint compound which you can buy in small buckets for one project.

The color is really off in the pics, dang it. O well - There are more pics and info on my blog about plaster stencils and more to be added soon.

That is gorgeous! I wish I had enough empty walls to do something like that, but they are all covered by bookshelves, furniture, or paintings. I did texture the wall behind the bookshelves with a trowel and joint compound- it looks a little like rough adobe. Maybe I can find a few spots for some small accents though...

That looks great! I imagine you could probably do just about any pattern/image you could think of that way. I'm picturing a sort of stylized desert landscape and using the colors of the sunset. Hmmmm...

Thanks! I got stencils from http://victorialarsen.com . She has tons of patterns. If you can frost a cupcake, you can do this. You can also mix tints in the joint compound to have a colored treatment on a wall that is already painted. It's worth the time to check out everything on her site.

She said that you can use it on doors, cupboards, furniture, but suggested a harder, more durable product over the joint compound. I think it's Durham's Water Putty, but check on her website for sure. I'm planning on putting some on a few pieces of furniture eventually.

I'm doing a modified Med-Mex (Mediterranian/Mexican) look. Some rooms more Italian, one large room with a Spanish garden theme. I wish I had some better pics. I love using simple stuff to make unusual things.

I just love Mariannes house you should also see what she did in the dinning room / sunroom. Every time I go over there I have to look up down and all around just to see all the things they have done. It is awesome. :thumbsup

My goodness looks FANTASTIC
what a great colour..
well done!!!!

I would like to share my favorite easy peasy paint tecnique....

after painting a darker colour...
dip the tips of a feather duster in a lighter shade...I have always used white because it has been so affective...
dab a few times on paper.to blot off extra paint.....then dab on wall looks good when you sort of turn your wrist and dab in all directions...
have tried many things rag saranwrap newspaper....ect.. this is the most georgious and easiest...

That sounds beautiful! I can just about picture it in my mind, a mesa in the background, as well as a few cacti.

I used several shades and colors of paint. Not evident in the pic is that I took a big, flat sponge, dipped barely in white paint and hit a lot of the high spots. After that dried, I brushed on a paint wash, 50/50 paint/water. Let that dry just a bit, then scrubbed it off with a terry rag. It ended up looking like dirty, age old plaster.

I didn't think about the feather duster. I used a couple of 4" paint brushes. I might have to give that feather duster a try.
