The first pack of Stutgarters that I planted, I just free seeded.
So I would never have thought that the number of seeds was significantly different then stated.

This evening, I planted in cells, one seed per cell.
I ran out of dirt, so no exact count yet, but its looking like there might possibly be 500 seeds!
This will mean I can save a pack for next year!

Wow! Where did you buy the seeds? I just got a packet from Comstocke/Baker's Creek, along with a packet of Wethersfield Red.

Everything I read on seed life indicates that seeds from the onion family are only good for about 1 year. That said, I have successfully got a crop from 2 year old seeds. But I don't have room to plant a lot, so therefore I can also get *something* even if only 50%, or less, are sprouting, since I plant thicker if the seeds are older. I never toss seeds just because the *experts* say they might not germninate this year; I plant more, and sometimes/usually I get enough.
