My 7 yr old has been having an itchy feet issue. I am suspecting a food sensitivity/allergy.

I seems to have started a couple months ago when she started fussing that her feet itched. I suggested a little lotion, thinking they were dry. Dh sat her on the side of the bathroom sink and let her soak her feet for a few minutes.
That seemed to help a little, not much.

So now everytime it happens she wants to soak her feet  this morning she was saying that she needed some bug bite medicine for her feet. I finally took a good look and she seems to have some bug bites (a little red and swollen from scratching), but really looks more welty.

In addition to this symptom she frequently has tummy aches.

I suggested that we start a food journal and start be eliminating wheat for now and just keep track of how she feels and what she eats.

I wondered if these symptoms were familiar to anyone?

Itchy feet remind me more of athlete's foot or an acute allergic reaction (like to bee stings). Belly aches make me think of trying to eliminate dairy, but that's just because that is my symptom :) Good luck!

DS has had 3 major reactions to food/meds, DD has had 3 food reactions, but not major. His tend to start with a hive-looking rash on his chest & belly. This moves up & down his body, we've never gotten past the hips & collar bone before we got medical attention, except for the first time, once his lips started to swell, I yelled at the nurse & they moved a LOT quicker. He never complained of a belly ache though.
DD's rash starts on her neck & crawls down her back, she also has never complained of belly ache.

Does she walk around barefoot anywhere? Carpet cleaner, the carpet itself, pesticides outside, insect bites? Just a thought.

I should add that sometimes her hands itch in addition to her feet.

She has never had a rash on her body....just itchy feet and occasionally itchy hands. No athletes foot, no carpet, but yes she is always barefoot at home. It is not a constant thing....just a random thing. Maybe 1- 2 times a week.

She is on Amoxicillin and that could be what spurred this itch attack....but it does not explain previous attacks.

Sounds just like me.

I react to wheat, chicken eggs, grapes, raisins, tomatoes, bananas and cottonseed oil.

I don't have full blown allergies but intolerances. If I have too many or too much of my trigger food, my hands and feet start the itching. I have had a couple of really bad attacks where I have had hives on my feet so bad I couldn't walk.

I had actual testing when I was 19. The only thing on that list I still eat are the tomatoes. I just take it easy :D

It could be wheat, egg, or dairy allergies. Or it could be allergic reaction to soap, laundry soap/fabric softener, --there are so many possibilities other than food which could cause this. Could be something you are cleaning the floor with, something on the lawn. so many possiblities.

We made a switch to whole wheat and I keep thinking that it may be linked to this.

Is that possible? to react more strongly to WW vs refined wheat? I buy coarse ground WW flour at Henrys and when I have purchased bread I have made sure that WW flour was the first ingred.

I guess I am leaning toward a food sensitivity not so much an allergy as it is mild and random.

Also the introduction to kefir and increase in yogurt consumption seems to coincide with the itchy issue.

I woul recommend keeping a diary of EVERYTHING--food and not food-- that varies. Then try to eliminate one at a time for a week or more before reintroducing it, and keeping a record of what happens when introduced. I can't think that ww would trigger a reaction more than white, exception being colitis, but those wouldn't be the symptoms of a colitis attack.

IDK with the yogurt or kefir either. Usually, in a fermented state, it is much more easily tolerated than in its original form. As in, lactose intolerant ppl handle yogurt andkefir much better than milk and some cheeses.
