ok FINE! SKR8PN finally pushed me over the edge with the canned venison stew....

for a newbie who doesnt want to spend $300 and just wants to give it a go... is there any reason NOT to order the Presto 23 quart pressure canner?

its on sale at amazon for $74 and shipping is free. see:
http://www.amazon.com/Presto-23-Quart-Aluminum-Pressure-Cooker/dp/B0000BYCFU

i'm about to click on order unless there is some big reason NOT to do it.

i know there are better ones out there (all metal no gasket) but i figure if this works out and i get over my canning-weenieness i can got all out and get the superduperdeluxe one some day.

thoughts?? i'm clicker finger is hovering........

When I started thinking about getting a pressure canner I wanted one of those really expensive All American no gasket ones. I received the Presto as a gift instead. I have used it several times since last Christmas and it works great. Granted I don't can as much as some folks but it seems to do a fine job.

I don't have any complaints.

good luck

I like mine :) That is the exact same reason I went with the Presto over the All American. Cheaper, to get me through canning until I might be able to afford/beg/borrow a great one.

Did you say venison stew? :drool

Wow, $74 with no shipping! Click away! I've done literally hundreds of jars with mine and if I didn't already have two, I'd get that one.....it is a great deal!

I have two Presto's. They are from the 60's or 70's and are that funky gold color, but they work wonderfully! 14 quarts at a time is good for me.

I bought the 23 qt. Presto last spring. I love It! The newer canners are lighter weight, at least it feels like it. And I can double stack jars or use my half-gallon jars.
You can't beat the price either. Wish they were $74 when I bought mine.

You are going to love your pressure canner!!!!! I have that model, got it in July, and have put up 900+ jars since then, and it has never failed. ("I" have failed once or twice, but it was never the canner's fault.)

That is a good price!

I bought an All American a while back and paid much more.

I do like the All American, it has worked great. I've told myself that if I find a good deal on another canner, I might actually pick it up, because it would be nice to double the pleasure so to speak and get more done at the same time.

If I am going to hang around and monitor one canner for 90 minutes, I might as well monitor two of them!
