I would love to butcher some meat rabbits but I havent advanced to that level yet. I just butchered my first roo. I wanna be as self reliant as possible. What do you find to be the broodiest chicken breed from a hatchery?miss_thenorth said:I didn't can at all this year. i still had some left over from last year, but I did freeze alot.
I have 25 meat birds this year. They are a month old. I have 30 layers, six roosters ( five are going to freezer camp next week.) I have 15 younguns who will start laying in march, and another 15 chicks who are also a month old.
I process my meat rabbits--I need help with the killing(not strong enough) I process my own quail.
Hubby and I processed our own lamb ram, and have another 5 ewe lambs to go, also next week. We will also be doing our ducks. Hunting season is right around the corner, and we have three deer tags. I hope we fill them all. We will process thm ourselves too.
Processed foods? I buy premade pasta, although I do have a pasta maker. Does that count? On occasion I've been known to buy a few chocolate bars and bags of chips. I make my own breakfast cereals, my own bread--all baking is done from scratch. All suppers are made from scratch. I do, on occasion buy lunch meat.
Silkies by far are about the broodiest chicken i have met. My silkie mutt is on 11 full size eggs --started setting for the fourth time this summer. and she started yesterday. So they should hatch by October. What do you find to be the broodiest chicken breed from a hatchery?
Hush your mouth girl. You ARE a homesteader. It is all about HOW you live not WHERE you live.TanksHill said:I am not sure if I qualify for this question. I really don't have a homestead YET.
But I have done a bit of canning this year.
