We got quite a scare last night when dd called to say that her mobile home had burned to the ground.
She was awakened by the sound of her 3 smoke detectors going off, just in time to grab her 3 kids and get out. GOD is good!
the fire was started by some faulty electrical work.

Long story short they lost everything. :(

The reason for this post is to remind you to please check your smoke alarm batteries . I know it sounds naggy but these fires really do happen!! :rant

My wife and I recently moved into a rental mobile home and when I went to check our batteries I found out that what I thought were smoke detectors were actually fancy air fresheners!!
Please dont be lax on this!!!! :old

That's terrible. I'm so glad they are all okay.
Ours are wired into the house electric system, with 9V battery backup so if the power goes down or shorts out, we can still be alerted. We check them when the time changes, spring & fall. The only reason my uncle, aunt & 2 cousins are still alive is because of their alarms. They've survived 2 house fires in 2 different houses. Both homes burnt to the ground. Scary scary

Also, when you check your alarm batteries, check (or have checked) your fire extinguishers.

Air freshners that look like smoke detectors.. Good thing you checked them out and found out they werent what you thought they were. Now you can get some real ones..

I dont know if this is a rule in Oregon or a rule just in my county. Or if it is just a rule of the rental company. But we had to sign a paper stating that the alarms were checked and were all working before we moved in. The landlord was present. And we both had to sign the paper..

I guess that is so if you had a fire you couldnt blame the landlord for the smoke detectors not working..

Thanks for the reminder.
