I just made a batch ....icy cold cukes into hot jars, topped with hot pickling mix....now how long do I wait to refrigerate them?

I am super excited to try pickles again.... after my pickling fiasco of last year where I canned them and they were all COMPLETE mush!

I made a couple of quarts of thin sliced pickles, like for burgers. We already broke into them and they are pretty good. The flavor could use some work...needs more garlic, dill and not sure what else...BUT they are wonderfully crisp!

Yay :weee Pickle Success!!!

Great job. I have never done refrigerator anything. I never have enough room to store them. I tried dills last year and did not like the flavor. My bread and butters were fabulous and my pickled zucc were to die for. I need to get canning...... :weee

You can "can" pickles in a water bath. I think any large pot with a wire rack or something in the bottom could be used. You just need to have at least a couple inches of water over the tops of the jars.

I am no expert but I think that's right. :th

Gina, do not water bath them! Use the recipe that wifezilla posted (look awesome!) or the one listed here (do a search)
9 lbs cukes (although I only 7 lbs and ran out of liquid) I sliced and chilled in a large bowl if Ice and water for a few hours. Then bing to a boil 7 cups water, 3 1/3 cups vinegar and a packet of kosher dill pickle mix (walmart) bring to a boil.(really needs more spice so take some tips from wifezilla's recipe)

Gently heat up your jars, pack them with the ice cold cukes, top to 1/2 in of the top with the hot pickling liq. cap and refrigerate. They are very nicely crisp!

I waterbathed some last year and they were mushy, babyfood mushy....disgusting!!
