Remodeling my kitchen on a budget

This is our kitchen remodel. We HAD a budget of $600 for the whole thing. We planned to use lots of free stuff from a kitchen we gutted for someone, plus scraps from other projects and stuff people had given us. We went over budget Because we had to rebuild a whole wall that we 'found' after we removed some drywall, and had to fix some wonky problems once we took down the drop ceiling, our total expenses came to $715. Not TOO shabby for a 14 x 28 foot room

Here are a couple neat things DH made for me.
First up, the Cookbook Nook, built into the island;

This is a spice holder he made out of some left over scraps from when he made new drawer fronts from an old cabinet door (which reminds me - I bet you can't figure out which two drawers he built by looking at the pictures - they match perfectly!);

If we manage to keep our internet, or when we get it back, I will post pictures of the new entrance to the kitchen. I didn't take before pictures, because we didn't plan to change it. Once we took down the drywall, we saw SERIOUS issues and DH had to replace the whole thing. Well, not letting an opportunity for awesomeness go to waste, I talked him in to changing things up a bit, and it is almost finished and looks AMAZING! I love my hubby!

WOW! If the windows and stuff were'nt in the same places, it'd look like a totally different space sis! Great job you guys, that's awesome! And, no, I CAN'T tell which drawers are homemade! That is so cool!!!

I think DH & I are a good team! I collect a bunch of piece's and parts that fit my 'vision', and once he quits trying to haul half of it to the dump, he makes it all come together for me

Really a great outcome... and to think you did it on a strict budget! I can only judge from the pictures, and not from living with and using the upgrade... I like the alterations of surfaces, from the standpoint of appearances. What I'm impressed by even more are the practical things you folks did with that microwave corner, the island, and the roll-out spice shelf. Thanks for sharing the pics of your project.
