This is probably the wrong place for this...sorry.

Anyway, I was just getting ready for bed, turned the thermostat down, put on my nightshirt, and heated my rice mat in the microwave when I thought I would share my bedwarmer with you all.

For many years, I made rice therapy bags, some with lavender in them, for aches and pains. Then last winter I hit on the idea of making a mat to warm the foot of the bed. Since then, I have heard LOTS of people tell about doing the same thing, but for a while I thought I was a genius.

Anyway, I got two pieces of fabric about 24 inches by 36 inches, and sewed them together on three sides. Then I sewed channels from the open end to the bottom, every three inches or so. I put half a cup of rice in each channel, then sewed horizontally to make a square filled loosely with rice. I continued doing this until I got to the top, then sewed it closed and hemmed it.

The small pockets of rice make the mat flexible in all directions, so it can wrap around large areas. But mostly I use it as a bed warmer. I fold it in fourths and nuke it for three or four minutes and then place it between the sheets at the foot of the bed about 30 minutes before I go to bed. Then, of course, it's presence drives me nuts and I have to kick it out of bed, but the sheets are WARM !

I am sure most of you do this very same thing and I am not revealing anything new...but this works so well that I just had to share. Those with microwave ovens might benefit. I am not sure I know how to get it hot if you don't have a microwave...but hopefully someone will educate me.

I was pretty sure this had been discussed before. I made several hundred of them last year as a fundraiser for my daughter, who, after losing 125 pounds, trained for and ran a marathon for Team in Training! She raised $2500 overall for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We had a lot of luck selling the long, thin ones with compartments, for wrapping around necks and ankles and knees.

Thank you ! She is a completely awesome woman.

We need a "bragging on others" thread...although I would probably hog the whole thing.....
