So, as some of you may know, I'm a high school teacher. I tend to keep to my self, but for some reason or other everyone seems to know me, or at least who I am. It may be because I'm one of two "brown persons" in our school. If you couldn't tell from a picture I posted, I'm Indian... but not entirely, my dad is from India and my mom from Guatemala, and I was born in DC. I digress, sorry.... back to school spirit. So this week is "spirit week: and like a good teacher I have been participating. Today was 80's day... I went as a punk rocker. I wore my Social Distortion shirt, jeans (cuffed), 10-eye steel-toed black Grinders, and sported a new do - a mohawk. I've never had one before and it was kind of fun. It's not big (I've been good about keeping my hair presentable, except for this), but it's a mohawk non the less. I didn't take a picture of the whole get-up, but my wife took a quick/silly one this morning... I'll post it tomorrow... it's okay to laugh.

Okay, back to the purpose of this post... when you were in high school did you have school spirit? I didn't, so why now, right? Exactly! I don't know! What makes a grown man do such silly things? Guess I may never know. Oh, by the way, tomorrow is multi-color day. I'm going to look like a mess! Awesome!

No wonder everyone knows who you are. You are the way cool, fun "brown" teacher.

I think it's great you are participating. I think it shows a sense of approachability to your students. As a kid, I was more comfortable with someone like you as opposed to the "stuffed shirts & no nonsense teachers. Plus, it's your school, too.

I did not have a lot of school spirit because I was not fond of school!

I think that for you to go this far to participate really shows the kids that oyu have a lot of heart but also sets an example....don't take yourself too seriously...make an effort to have some fun.

Being a teenagers is tough and there is a lot of angst that goes along with it. Your students are lucky to have you :)
