So we have a couple of old CH&A units(mom's old one and our old one) we want to scrap out for some cash. How do we go about getting the best prices? What is the difference between number one copper and number two copper? How do you tell the difference, and how do you seperate it correctly? With all the folks around here stealing the darn things I gues I could go do some interviewing at the jail to find out  but I'd rather not :p As is, because of the doofuses I have to wait 3 days to collect my money :/ so if any come up stolen they'll be able to check who has recycled any. Anyway, anyone have a clue about this?

Its been awhile since I've done copper. I think copper wiring is no 1 copper and that copper tubing is no2. The best way to find out is to call the scrap places and get prices and them to tell you the differences in the copper. Call several places because sometimes you will get a way better price at one than you will at another. We had the copper off our propane tank stolen at our old place. That stuff is stinkin expensive. I'm glad they are doing something to catch theives!

Yes I am glad too, but it sure puts a damper on things for the rest of us honest folk. The last one stolen in my area was from the funeral home and they wound up having to move a ladies body to another nearby location. Very stressful and very sad for the family during such a difficult time, but they caught the jerkface theif thanks to this set up. So, yes, I am glad, but it is disheartening to see so many theives around here in my area that are so horrible that they'd do something awful like that. And it does make it aggravating for those of us just trying to catch an honest break.

Our area is the exact same way. Drugs and dealers are everywhere. Jobs are almost completely gone and theives will steal you blind. This has all happened in the last 5 years around here. Before I never locked my vehicle or my house, now having something coming up missing is getting too common and I make sure to lock everything that is not in the fenced area.

Yeah, it really is disgusting. With all the bank re-po'd houses around, no one around and able to look out for this. I know a realtor that had deals about to close on two vacant houses and the copper thieves trashed both of them the day before closing.
