I don't have them beside me to type in the titles, but my mother saw a bunch of these type of books at a yardsale and scored about five books on this! I'm excited. :D

I would be too. I know I'm a bit late with the reply. I usually don't come on the "Natural Remedies" section at all, but it is a subject of great interest to me lately. Thinking about a study and I'm reading books that we only had as refrences and also borrowing from library to study with for some self-directed learning, while I decide where I'm going to take this interest.
By now you must have found that one of them is most useful of the others....care to share the info??? I am wishing to find a book on healing herbs that also has color pics of wild herbs from my area.

I have to say that Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You To Know About is probably the worst. Some of it is simply inaccurate and the cocky way he puts forth his information just gets to me. It's not very scientific at all. Like, he's got some of the basics down (eat right, exercise, etc, etc) but some of the more "advanced" stuff is vague and incorrect!

I have a boatload of natural healing books as I am a working herbalist.

A good one is Herbal Healing for Women by Rosemary Gladstar and also Rosemary Gladstar's family herbal, which you may be able to find on Amazon used as it is out of print.

My Mom loves those books.

the natural way to 'lower blood pressure'. tackle this and that medical problems. I read it alot. I like it.

So much is just common sense but then you also get to know what herbs do help.

I'll have to look for them, they sound really interesting!

Rhoda, I first did a web search for wild flowers and plants in my state. Through all my searching, I finally found a website for wild edibles and herbs for Texas. Lots of pictures and plenty of those same plants grow here in Kansas. But a book would be so helpful when you're out walking around, huh!

I remember about a decade ago they used to have state herb identification card packs in the different survival stores and online. A friend got a pack for my family as a gift. It had all of the different plants and herbs you would encounter in your state and was a deck of cards for each state. It is very cool.

I let my daughter have it a while back and will have to see if she can give me the name of the maker, but you should see online if they still carry things like this. They were very useful to me.

Sorry so late. DH 'borrowed' my screen cuz his died and I just 'borrowed' it back so I could check e-mails and do a few things. Thought I'd see if all you guys are into anything exciting. Well I am continueing to study, as before and DH bought me 3 field guides, which I think will be very helpful for identification, as well as quick info. Got a few laughs about one plant that ignites when it gets too sunny and hot. A lot of friends/family have been asking me if I have any knowledge about treating certain problems. I'm learning because of my families ailments. Sometimes I have 5 books in front of me and I'm cross referencing with all of them to find out everything I can about a problem. There are people out there that actually think their doctors have done harm to them by putting them on so much medicians for so many years. I can understand how they feel; but I am very clear to them that I am teaching myself useful info that I am interested in and not yet even enrolled, let alone certified to give advice. Doesn't seem to matter; they just want to be healed somehow and want whatever I know. There is a lotta good learning out there, weather someone is in a study program or just casually gathering info, as I'm doing now. It's truely amazing the things we have right at our disposal that we can use to keep ourselves well and fight illnesses. You can bet, I have a 'shopping list' of herbs I will be obtaining to keep in my medician cabinet.

I thought he was known more for infomercials than for what he knows. I agree about info being vague. I could be wrong but that is what I remember.

School of Natural Healing, by Dr. John Christopher, is our go-to book but we have stacks of others as well. dawn419 is my "little hillbilly witch doctor", but i do take an active interest in my own holistic health care. and we've invesed a lot of time and effort (not to mention $) in developing our holistic library. my company's health-care plan allows ( on a pre-paid visa card )$800 per year to pay on any medical expences, that include, paying down the deductable,or glasses, or herbal supliments. pretty cool in my opinion. and if you do't use it all it rolls over. my co. is owned by a belgian conglomerate so they are far more forward thinking than an amerikan co who is hugged up to the hmo's and the amerikan corpetate greed.ooh crap, this thread was about books sorry for the additional rant. oh yeah, i can also buy herbal books with my company card, anything health related.

chers,

doc
