Hi, Painting is a skill that can be mastered if one understands the medium that is being used. Use some tips when you pain your house.
* The oxygen in the air reacts with the paint, making it thick and difficult to apply on the wall.
* Do not paint out of the paint can. While painting the brush picks up dust and other impurities from the surface that you are painting. If you dip this brush into the paint can then you will transfer it to the can. This will cause specks in your painting.
* In an open can the paint will be exposed to the air and it will react with it. This makes the paint thicker and sticker and more difficult to paint with.
* A can is bulky and cumbersome to carry around while painting. A paint can is to be used for storage of paint only.

Make sure your walls are good and clean prior to painting. The paint will stick better and it will look more smooth. Be sure to put something on the floor to protect it, newspapers work great and are easy to clean up.

Fix any holes or blemishes prior to painting. If puttying holes, let them dry 24-48 hours and then sand smooth before painting. Make sure you wipe the grit off and let it dry before you paint, too,.

Use painting tape carefully applied to help keep your lines straight. Don't leave it adhered to the wall too long after drying, or it will not peel off easily, and you'll have a mess with dried tape stuck to the wall.

It takes longer, but it is well worth the extra time to prime woodwork and even walls before applying new paint. I'm getting ready to repaint a bathroom, and the primer coat is going down first, no matter what.
