I'm in the process of insulating my shop which is 24 Ft x 24 Ft. Following that I want to re-arrange everything, create a new shop layout. The problem I have is that nothing I try seems to work right. I would appreciate any ideas anyone may have for doing this. The main components I currently have are a contractors saw, band saw, floor mount drill press, grinder, disk/belt sander, 3 ft x 6 Ft bench, 2 Ft x 4 Ft bench for sander and grinder and will be acquiring a small lathe.

Thanx in advance

The room I'm sitting in right now is a 24 ft x 24 ft. We remodeled this room several years ago and thought we had a huge room to work with. By the time we added built-in desks, cabinets, and a small laundry area, we had whittled down our space somewhat. Before I made any permanent constructions, I'd lay out my spaces and work in them awhile before I put anything down for good.

Hi Zepe,

I've found Microsoft Excel to be particularly helpful in the past when trying to reorganize/re-layout a room. Adjusting the columns/rows to be square and setting each square to be some, relatively arbitrary, unit of measurement. Looks like most of your measurements are in feet, so one square = one foot.

Then you can create boxes/shapes of your other tools, to scale (sort of) to see what might work best in terms of efficient use of space.

What tools would you say you use the most? I might start with the top 3 tools you use, then build around that. Casters will become your good friend.

Let us know what you come up with!
