So today we decide to take a trip out to the orchard and spend a bit (No, make that WAY more) than we expected! My wife and oldest picked some more blueberries to make pie filling, and I took the three younger children and picked peaches. Now I had one of those large bags, the kids each had a small one... At the counter, we hit a tick over $85.00!!!! Well, remind me to watch that better next time! Good grief that's going to hit the food budget a bit.

Soooooo..... We have plans for pie filling, peach jam, & whole canned peaches. But can any suggest some more ideas and recipes? :)

On another note, this peach invasion made me finally build some crates. I have wanted some of these when we harvest the garden, or maybe to dry store potatoes or carrots. So after we got home, I made the money spent look a little more impressive! :/

They are sitting in here now with a towel over the stack so they can ripen up a little more before we have to go nuts cooking them! I am sure glad I just scored two dozen wide mouth quart jars on craigslist the other day! :D

And I made them stackable too!

Oh, and how could I forget! All of the wood was free! There is a place I drive by every now and then while working that puts out these huge piles of wood, some times so really nice stuff (I picked up 4 sheets of birch plywood 4' x 5' the last time) I have to make do with stuffing it into the trunk of my company car, but the rear seat folds down so I really can stuff some in there~ ;)

Love the peach boxes!

Fortunately, we don't have blueberries or peaches to pick here and get an $85 bill for.
Unfortunately, we don't have blueberries and peaches to pick here. :(

Those boxes sure look nice. We usually just use cardboard lug boxes, that we scrounge up.
Be carefull of those peaches.
they ripen fast and then go bad in a second. We grow our own peaches and store them one layer deep and handle them with care.
I make peach sauce, I use the peaches that aren't nice enough for canning in quarters sections and just chop them up as for jam add some sugar, same as for jam, but omit the pectin. THis is great on yogurt or ice cream.
This year I also dried peaches. They came out very well. I dipped them in lemon juice with a bit of honey before placing them in the deydrator. Some still darkened, but most of them came out fairly light in color.
You can't beat home made peach jam. If you have kids, make lots of it.

Yea, super careful with these peaches, that is why the boxes were made. I have a second layer loosely spaces on top of the first layer so they have air flow. This morning the kitchen has such a wonderful peach smell! :D

I plan on jam, no worry there! I will make at least 6 pints to keep and maybe a few 1/2 and 1/4 pints that can be gifted. That peach sauce might work too...

I remember seeing some peach chipotle sauce that sounded wonderful!

How about freezing them? I freeze a lot in chunks that we later combine with lemonade for easy and delicious smoothies!

I have peach overload from time to time. (not this year :( )

I freeze them, I make jelly and jam, I can them in heavy syrup, I make up pie filling and freeze it in a Ziplock bag inside of a pie pan (so all I have to do later is make the dough and add a filling-cicle!) and you really should try my peach butter recipe that I posted! They are right they ripen super fast! I would start working on the more ripe ones NOW!

Oh and I too LOVE the peach boxes!

No suggestions on what to do with all of your peaches but your boxes look great! :thumbsup

Have fun with all that fruit, I am sure that whatever you do with it will be delicious!

We freeze nectarines because my mum thinks peaches are weird and fuzzy (LOL) and nectarines are firmer. Frozen fruit is a great treat in the winter :)
