Some may not find this as funny as I did but...

Okay true story I work in a nursing home and it really is a hard job, but sometimes you just have to laugh because if you didn't you would cry. There was an old lady i was dressing this morning and normally she is a bit combative so i learned that if you distract her with talking about something she likes it goes way easier. We were talking about her life growing up on a farm. She also has a touch of dementia. Well I was putting her shirt on her and had just pulled her nightgown off when she looked down. Her eyes got big and she exclaimed "Where did those come from! Oh my goodness I hope those go away before mother sees them. She'll be so mad, but I guess that's what happens when you play around on a farm!" I just about died laughing.

I would have laughed, as well!

My late grandmother had me laughing so hard that there were tears. She was developing dementia but her body was flexible and agile. One day we went to yard sales together and she asked the lady if she could try on some pants. She came out of the house with skin tight slacks that came just below the knee. They were very colorful kids full length pants. I couldn't believe my eyes, then realized she didn't know they didn't fit- which kind of horrified me, but it looked so ridiculous that I burst out laughing. The homeowner's jaw dropped at the sight.

After reading your post, it has only now occurred to me that she may have at that moment thought she was a kid and those were correct pant size for her.

There were further episodes of this at department stores and it continued to be hilarious, yet worrisome. I don't regret the laughing; I enjoyed her at all stages of her mental decline.

That is hysterical! You are one special person to be able to work with the elderly. I don't have the patience :bow

You're right, you do have to find the humor in something like that. I have to say my grandmother never did anything like that. She just refused to believe I had really married DH, even though she had been at the wedding....:/

They can come out with some funny stuff, just like kids. Nursing home work can be hard and depressing, but it is also worth it.
