I woke up and couldn't find my glasses. Apparently they ended up under the bed on the wife's side (don't ask, please) but for a couple hours I was desperately frantic. I can't drive or shoot without mine. Gotta love feather weight lens's till you can't find yer glasses.....

Ordering a backup pair tomorrow:somad

My reading glasses are on my nightstand, and I have an old script pair in the drawer. And only b/c I have left my original pair in the bathroom or something and forgot about them until morning. It's not nice being blind.

I have often panicked about my glasses. It really does suck being blind. I finally got the laser surgery and it has been sooo worth it.

My eyes are going out again, but I can still manage fine without glasses. I have computer and reading glasses. Although I lost my reading glasses sometime early this year. So now I only have my computer glasses.

I only need reading glasses right now but got "those lines" happening which is probably some type of cataract thingy.....gotta get checked and probably have the laser removal in the near future

but I have about 10 prs of reading glasses stationed thru the house, 1 pr in each glove box of my vehicles, 1 travel pair in my purse, 1-3 prs in my camper

seriously, I panic also when I can't put my hands on glasses cause I can not read without them now --squinting doesn't help now

backups are super necessary :p

So far, no need for glasses, thankfully. But, I have TERRIBLE "night vision". There have been times that I've had to pull over and let someone else take the wheel, or drive way under the speed limit (and I'm a 5 over at all times, unless I'm going faster, lol). When it rains at night, I can't see the lines at all and have to use the gravel side thinger (can't think of the term right now) to try to at least stay on the road. So, I have an "appreciation" for the folks who can't see. :/ It SUCKS!

The frames broke last week on my glasses. I popped out the lenses and put them in a cheap pair of reading glasses frames I got at Dollar General for $6. I also have a spare. I DO need new glasses because I now need bifocals :hit

But yeah. Always have a spare or two. I not only couldn't shoot without my glasses, I couldn't even find the gun.

Been there done that. Every time I get a new prescription I save the last pair. I have some in my camper and a pair in the house.

Wifezilla that's a great idea bout the lenses in new frames. I have a pair the dog chewed. I should look for a frame.

One useful thing to be aware of is that in an emergency situation you can use a pinhole-camera type setup to do the focusing that your eyes aren't doing. This will not help you read War and Peace or drive a car, but it CAN be quite adequate to (for example) read the doseage info on a bottle of medicine, or see a particular distant object more clearly.

Basically just make a small hole, from large pinhole to ~ 1/8" in size, and fiddle with how far it is from your eye and the object until you get correct focus. I do this by just pinching the tips of the thumbs and forefinger of both hands together to make a teensy tiny square hole to look thru, and hold it maybe 4" (?) from my eye and adjust til I get as good a focus as I'm going to. But you can do it by poking a hole in a piece of <anything>, too. If you are not accustomed to monocular work with both eyes open, it helps to close the eye that doesn't have the pinhole in front of it. (In principle I guess you could do this with both eyes at once but personally I lack the coordination to keep *two* pinholes focussed and aimed correctly at the same time :p)

It ain't the same as glasses -- your field of vision is very limited, and you will not get as much sharpness as good prescription glasses -- but it is WAY WAY better than nothing. I find myself doing this probably every few months or more, often just at times when I don't happen to be wearing my glasses, and it is real useful.

Good call! I hadn't thought of that. Too bad I don't like the frames that are in style now.
