Every month, I get pain in my neck and shoulder when I start my period. Unfortunately, it lasts for about 2 weeks and then I get 2 weeks respite before it comes back. It's definitely muscle pain, and it's driving me crazy! So it occurred to me that maybe it's a nutrient deficiency tied to my menstrual cycle. Anyone know if magnesium levels are affected by your period? Or is there another nutrient that I might need to supplement during this stretch?

Sounds like a thyroid issue. Hormonal swings can affect it, and thyroid pain is often indicated as a stress ache in the neck and shoulders.
I would look into endocrine supplements, that support the thyroid and adrenals at the same time.
A very low dose of iodine would be a good start.

I think magnesium needs increase with that time of month. I wouldn't rule out thyroid issues though. Have you had your hormone and nutrient levels checked?

I'm completely certain I have a thyroid issue, but my "numbers" are "normal," so I haven't been able to find a doc who will treat me. I have had my cortisol checked, and that is somewhat low, in that most people start out at a peak when they wake up, and I just pretty much stay at the same level all day. I have had my nutrient levels checked, but not my hormones. Was low on D and magnesium, but not majorly so.

BB, can you recommend any endocrine supplements? I do take liquid iodine, and it helps, but I don't feel 100%. It's hard to tell what supplements are for real, and what are just junk.
