I have not done much baking with my sourdough, so last night I made some dough, let it rest in the oven for 14hours, then baked it.

It did not rise. Any ideas what I did wrong? It did rise initially, but not during the bake.

Did it over rise the first time? Sometimes that will happen and it won't rise again the second rise. Sometimes I cheat on my sourdough and if I havent' used it for a while I'll add a little yeast to the starter.

If you have not been using your sourdough regularly (or taking some out and feeding the remainder *very regularly*), or if it was frozen, then it is quite possible it has died. (Or anyhow, pooped out too much to work effectively).

YOu can try adding some yeast, but you may just have to get a new starter.

Only other possibility I can think of is if you were messing around with ingredients and maybe either added too much salt or added something yeast-killing like too much garlic or certain herbs to the dough, that can also sometimes kill dough.

Good luck, hope you get it figured out and fixed,

Pat

It had been in the frig for about 3 weeks. I took it out at fed it twice before using it. Perhaps it just needed more time. After each feeding it did double, so I know it is active, but maybe just still a bit weak from neglect. I will keep it out and fed for a few more days and then try again.
