I wonder if there would be any interest in setting up a barter network in Soutrhern oklahoma? With fuel being as high as it is, how would we work this? I will be planting my starter plants soon and will most certainly have more than my whole family can use and put up for later. Also will be starting some laying hens and hopefully have extra eggs for barter in the future. Just wanted some imput on this.

I'm not sure how many of us here on SS are in your area to make this possible. I've always had good luck bartering with people we know in our neighborhood or advertising what we want to barter on craigslist. Then if there are things you consistently barter you quickly get to know people in your area and could set up a more formal group or schedule.

handydude - I think you're really on to something. To me it's a wonderful idea. Of course there must be someone to start it and to be the "chief-cook-and-bottle-washer" for a while until the network is up and functioning. Just think of all the possibilities with a local barter network, wow! And no tax donated to the undeserving.

Maybe an on-line service like craigs list or angies list would be a good way to get people together to offer and negotiate barter agreements. The website would be a great tool to get things started but once the network is up and going you may want to down-play the on-line part because Uncle Sam will undoubtedly want to meddle into your affairs and also if TSHTF computers might not be usable and word of mouth would have to take over.

We must keep local, state, and federal government out of our lives at all times whenever possible.
