So, I have been learning to spin wool...useing a drop spindle. Let me say, this is the most rewarding thing I have done in a while.
My yarn is not "perfect" but I believe it is useable! LOL
My wool is brown, from my ewe April. I love the color...whatcha think~!?

Not an expert by a long shot. I took a one day hand spinning course with a friend who spins. But I will say it's awfully pretty!

I have been wanting to learn how to spin. Kudos to you for doing it. I just need to find my stash of wool and drag myself away from those darn computer games I keep getting caught up in. I actually have a spindle and know even where it is.:p

Welcome to a new obsession

I took a weekend spinning course years ago on a wheel- I really liked it and bought a wheel and a fleece. Then, I moved, packed everything, and my wheel hasn't seen the light of day for 6 years now :( Then in the spring I took a leap and bought a drop spindle because I really wanted to work with my brown fleece I had (plus, I scored a free fleece at a local fair last year during the sheep shearing demonstration!). I love the spindle. I'm not sure I would go back to my wheel, even if I had a place to put it.

Your yarn looks lovely. I am told by people who weave that they love "beginner's" yarn because it is so unpredictably thick/thin/slubby. Once you get good your yarn is too consistant to be interesting. (That's still my goal, though)

Valmom,
Thanks...my sister actually asked me if she could have some of the "stubby" yarn. She prefers useing it for crochet. :/ I PERSONALLY want to get my yarn looking all the same size. :p Its definately a learning process...and I DO like useing the drop spindle. Its relatively easy, and quick!

One day I will actually be able to spin consistant yarn. It is my goal! (actually, I'm getting a bit better. Every skein I make gets a bit more "real".
