So I have this grass bush thing that has grown in the front yard. I think it was formerly a weed but it looks like a lovely grass bush now. And I am rather fond of it. But its gotten HUGE! And I think it could be split.
Any advice on doing so? I'll try to take a photo this afternoon and post it.

I'm also going to be digging/splitting my mini Iris this weekend. I've now transplanted Iris, but they weren't mine, so I didn't dig them up. Any recommendations on how to dig them up without killing them???

Thanks!! (Can you tell its going to be a yard work weekend?!)

Grass clumps are easy to split--straight down the middle with a sharp shovel ;) If it's really big you might get 4 clumps out of it that will have better shape than just splitting it in two.

Iris are simple to dig up, not much goes very deep at all so just loosen the soil around it and ease it up with your fingers. My Mom always broke them apart to split them, but I found this link that says to use a knife: http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/iris/2002045002020707.html

Probably some good advice in there, but they're pretty tough so I'm sure you'll do just fine :)
